The Philosophy Behind the Making

At Weathercraft, we see soil not just as a foundation, but as a living force. Our approach goes beyond organic principles, embracing biological farming — a philosophy that nurtures soil health as the heart of vine vitality. Rather than reacting to problems, we focus on building resilience from the ground up, creating an environment where vines, fruit, and wine naturally flourish. The result is wine that speaks clearly of place, season, and craftsmanship — an honest reflection of the land we tend with care.

"Our vineyard is home to around 10,000 vines — and each season, I lay hands on every one of them at least three times, often more. From pruning and cane laying to leaf plucking, bunch thinning, wire tucking and harvesting, each vine is managed by hand. It’s not just about vigilance — it’s about connection. This deep, physical involvement gives the wine I make every chance to express the best of the season, the site, and the integrity of its raw ingredient."- Raquel Jones, Viticulturist & Winemaker

Some Kind Words

"This is glorious gris. It sees 100% barrel fermentation, 50% mlf and has an eight-month rest in 10% new French oak. The resultant wine is layered, with baked peach cheeks and mascarpone spooned atop, accompanied by honeysuckle and ripe pear. Flint and sun-sweetened apricots, too. And there also, a zingy line of acidity, sprinkled like sherbet throughout, breaking up the richness and evoking a sense of glee. It's textured, long and brilliant, making it a versatile choice for cross-seasonal drinking. Beautifully made."Katrina Butler for Wine Companion on Weathercraft Pinot Gris - Barrel Fermented (95pts)
"A GSM from Beechworth? Say what? This is a plummy and rich blend of grenache, shiraz and monastrell. The wine sees no oak influence and is aged entirely in amphora, resulting in a wine of beautiful texture and fruit purity, with a vein of mineral tension. It's velvet over silk, a subtle friction to its chalky tannin, a mesh of ripe black fruits and dried fig, with a fired earth and bark-like presence existing beyond the surface, almost subterranean. It's raw yet knit together. Pure pleasure."Katrina Butler for Wine Companion on Weathercraft 'Trilogía - Amphora GSM (94pts)
"Beechworth is also a bastion of high-quality syrah, capable of parrying with the world’s very finest. The firmament of Castagna and Giaconda is joined by relative newcomer Weathercraft. Psychosomatic, perhaps, but the Spanish heritage of Weathercraft winemaker Raquel Jones seems to manifest as a certain polish to the style, not dissimilar to top Spanish reds. Her wines are defined by immaculate tannin management and precision."Ned Goodwin MW for James Suckling on Weathercraft Reserve Syrah (96pts)
“If you wonder why Beechworth has such a great reputation for Chardonnay, then I present this wine to you as proof. I absolutely adored it. It takes everything that the Estate Chardonnay has and just amplifies it, but without coming across as over the top. Brilliant primary aromas of lemon, grapefruit, hay, wax, apricot and cucumber are joined by secondary ones of cream and oak, and tertiary notes of nuts and smoke – there’s so much going on for the nose and palate that it’s almost sensory overload. The mouthfeel is vivacious and salty, with heaps of flavour that lingers, with an almost unctuous sensation and masses of acidity. It may be a hundred bucks but it is definitely worth it, and in about ten years it will be simply glorious.”Brendan Black for Wine Pilot on Weathercraft Reserve Chardonnay (95+pts)
